KL Eats

lunch at 品香美食小馆 at Sungai Buloh. We had 滑蛋河 and fish porridge. This restaurant, or rather kopitiam, is famous of porridge, especially fish porridge. You will long queue during public holiday and you need to wait for your number.

The Chee Cheong Fun here looks and tastes different from the one we have in Penang.

Tai Po Mee. Don't know what that is. I simply ordered it to try. It tastes like the Pan mee to me.

My mother is such a good cook. I grew up knowing that for a fact. She is probably the best cook among all her 7 siblings. My tongue has the capability to taste the dishes which she cooked from the dishes which are not. She is also a keen learner. Recently, she learned how to bake cakes and pastries. In this photo, she is making a type of Malay pastries. She just does it with grace with her nimble hands.

1-1-11

How did I welcome the first day of the year?
For me, it is nothing better than indulging myself in a honeycomb goldrush espreski and brownie with vanilla ice cream!

2011 is going to be awesome!

Caramel Nut Crunch espreski

No complaint on the espreski!

However, the soft chocolate layer on top of the brownie was a little too thick. I still prefer the old brownie which Dome cafe used to serve. The brownie is best to be eaten with vanilla ice cream. Please request the restaurant to heat up the cake before serving.

31-12-2010

I decided to get out of the bed a bit early on the very last day of the year to experience the streets of Penang. This little walk around is supposed to train my eyes also as a photographer. By going back to the same locations again and again, I need to observe more and try out different angles to look at things around the locations. Sometime I just want to go back to the basic to shoot something which every beginner would try to shoot when they first bought their camera. It makes me feel that I started to learn again and the only reason I am out there is to capture something interesting or beautiful. Even though I only managed to cover one whole street from the beginning till the end of street because of the time constraint, it really made me feel this is the best thing to do before wrapping up 2010.

Goodbye 2010! It has been a blessed year!

Nyonya Kuih - Kuih Kochi

The first post of 2011 is about food. I love food, no doubt. My mother is very good at making kuih. Kuih is the Malay word for cakes or pastries. One of the kuih she is good at making is Kuih Kochi. It is a type of Nyonya kuih, I think, which is wrapped with banana leaf. The skin of kuih is made from glutinous rice with pandan flavored and the filling is made from grated coconut with palm sugar flavor. This kuih is best to eat when it is hot because the skin is more tender.
