Emergency lanes are not safe for motorists

When the emergency lanes are not safe for the motorists, what is it for then?! Some peoples actually suggested that you cannot park your car on the emergency lanes when your car stalled or broke down because the emergency lanes are meant for the ambulance or fire engines ONLY. I was thinking how we could move my car to a safer place when our cars broke down half way on the north-south highway. Anyhow, you will have higher chance of getting killed if you parked your stalled vehicle at the emergency lane. That is an undeniable fact now! On my recent trip to Ipoh to attend my colleague's wedding, I saw a few stalled vehicles stopped at the emergency lane on the way. Without realizing the dangerous situation they were in, the passengers of one of the stalled cars just sat and wait next to their car to hide from the sun. How dangerous that is! So, if your car broke down on the north-south highway and you have to park the car at the emergency lane (because you cannot push your car to a safer place), you must wait for the mechanic at a safe distance from your car. Please wait behind the railing by the road and not stand around your car to chit-chat. Happy and Safe 2008!

When you were small...

Have you ever sat on your father's or your grandpa's shoulder to watch a parade when you were small like the kid in the photo? I do not recall such memory now. For some of you, it might be a distant memory but I am sure it is something you always cherish. So, please call home now to show your concern to your parent while you still can.

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II vs Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC Macro

I have been thinking of buying a standard f/2.8 lense for quite a while. The big aperture on the lense helps a lot in low light photography and a fast speed lense will reduce the chances of capturing blurry photos, especially with my shaky hands. These two lenses are my candidates. For the photography enthusiasts out there who can read and understand Chinese, you can visit this link to find out more. This link from http://www.mobile01.com/ forum provides a very good comparison between these two lenses. This gentleman (KenKuo) did some testing using these two lenses and made his conclusion. It is up to you whether you want to trust his testing and conclusion. If you found someone did something similar and posted the result in English. Please let me know and share. I would like to check if their result are the same. Anyway, I am still deciding. Believe me, it is hard choice to make.

Trip to Turkey

Finally I have redeemed the ticket to Turkey at next April, after much consideration. It is not an easy decision to make. The ticket 'costs' me 60k airmiles. I have to pay RM769 for the fuel surcharges and airport taxes. Isn't that a bit expensive? Initially, I planned to make this trip at the beginning of March 2008 but all the airmiles redemption seats were fully booked throughout March. At the end, I have to settle for 4th April departs from Penang and returns on 19th April. Thanks to the patience of the MAS ticketing staff. That's a full two weeks of vacation for me. I hope that my boss is alright with me in taking such a long vacation. Anyway, this is something I have to 'negotiate' with my boss when I am back to the office later. The most important thing I have to do now is to do a lot of researches on the places to visit and the accomodation in Turkey. There is a lot of preparation that needs to be done prior to the trip. Really look forward to this trip!
